Curtains FAQ’s
Why this fabric?
At Finir, simplicity is key. The fabric we've chosen has been tested and proven on hundreds of pairs of curtains. Our most popular plain fabric, with it’s linen look, drapes beautifully and performs exactly as expected. It resists creasing and the warm, neutral colour complements a wide range of interior schemes.
Finir introduces a new concept in interior design —one that dares to challenge the status quo. After 20 years of refining our craft, we’ve arrived at one signature fabric: a fabric that drapes flawlessly, handles beautifully, harmonises with the majority of wall colours and styles every window with ease. Your home, made by Finir. Look no further.
Why only two heading options?
At Finir, we’ve simplified things to ensure the best results. With our extensive experience, we’ve selected the two most popular heading styles. These headings not only hang and stack better than standard gathered or tape headings, but they also use less fabric than options like triple pleats or goblet pleats, which require 2.5 to 3 times the fullness. This keeps costs down for you while still delivering a stylish and elegant finish. [headings guide]
Why do you use only blackout lining?
We pride ourselves on maintaining high standards of quality and consistency. For curtains we use a blackout lining that drapes very well and whether you think you need it or not, we recommend it because it always shows the true colour of our fabric and trims and is the best, most consistent finish.
Why are the curtains interlined?
Interlining curtain is the perfect way to create beautiful window treatments by enhancing the drape and handle of the curtain fabric. It offers light protection and thermal properties by reducing light entry into the room and providing extra protection from sunlight, keeping sound levels down and keeping the heat in and cold out.
We have chosen to interline all our curtains as it is our most popular finish, we very rarely get asked for ‘just lined’ curtains. It also sets the standard of quality to which we strive. You won’t be disappointed.
Why are there only two options for the position of the trim on the curtains?
At Finir, we aim to keep things simple and cost-effective. By offering fewer choices for trim placement (leading edge only or leading & outside edges), we reduce costs and ensure a consistently high finish. Also by not having the trim horizontally across the bottom or the top, the curtains hang and stack better. (edges information)
How are the Curtains Fitted/Hung?
How are the curtains made?
All our curtains are bespoke made to measure here in the UK. With decades of experience between us, we have mastered the best way to make up Finir curtains, offering a consistent and quality finish. The interlining is sandwiched between the face fabric and lining, with anchor stitches at certain points to secure the layers. We hand sew the 6” double pleat headings, whereas the 80mm wave tape in machine sewn on. Our hems are handsewn, with mitred, weighted corners. The braid/trim is set in by 1cm from the chosen edges.
Do the curtains come with hooks?
Yes.
We supply the hooks for both heading options. We will put on the hooks for the 80mm wave but will leave you to ‘pin hook’ the hand finished headings because they are positioned accordingly to the size of your pole or track. (fitting guide)
Romans Blinds FAQ’s
Why this fabric?
At Finir, simplicity is key. The fabric we've chosen has been tested and proven on hundreds of Roman blinds. Our most popular plain fabric, with its linen look, drapes beautifully and performs exactly as expected. It resists creasing and the warm, neutral colour complements a wide range of interior schemes.
Finir introduces a new concept in interior design —one that dares to challenge the status quo. After 20 years of refining our craft, we’ve arrived at one signature fabric: a fabric that drapes flawlessly, handles beautifully, harmonises with every wall colour, and styles every window with ease. Your home, made by Finir. Look no further.
How are the Roman blinds constructed?
All our Roman blinds are bespoke and made to measure here in the UK. We use a thermal-bonded blackout lining as standard, which is self-pocketed and discreetly finished to the face fabric with hand-sewn stab stitches instead of visible machine stitching. While we cannot guarantee complete blackout, as some light may pass through the connection points, the blackout lining still provides excellent light control.
The blinds feature fiberglass rods and aluminium bottom bars. Our attention to detail also includes our use of premium 6mm chrome eyelet cord guides, on the reverse of the blinds. With our cord guide toggles, sewn on for safety. You can choose either a chrome or antique brass chain-operated mechanism and we send a safety catch which must be sewn on for safety.
When raised, the blinds cascade gently, with an approximate stack height of one-sixth of the drop.
Why do you only use thermal blackout lining?
We pride ourselves on maintaining high standards of quality and consistency. Over the years, we’ve tested various methods for making Roman blinds and found that the thermal blackout lining is essential. It ensures the true colour of the fabric shows, gives the blind structure, and conceals all the rods, seams, and cords.
Why is there only one choice for the position of the trim on the blinds?
To maintain simplicity and avoid overcomplicating things, we’ve limited the trim position to one option. This ensures the trim doesn’t interfere with the blind’s function, maintaining a clean and consistent look.
How are your blinds fitted?
They can be fitted inside or outside the recess (Measuring & Fitting Guides)
Linings FAQ’s
Why are the curtains interlined?
Interlining curtains is the perfect way to create beautiful window treatments by enhancing the drape and handle of the curtain fabric.
It also sets the standard of quality to which we aspire to. You won’t be disappointed.
What is Curtain Interlining ?
This is a soft thermal layer which is sandwiched between he face fabric and lining. It provides better drape, thermal properties and noise reduction.
Here at Finir we use a man-made, pre-shrunk, light to mid weight interlining. For us, we have experienced using natural cotton interlinings and these are more expensive, can have more movement over time and they give off a lot of fibre particles, which isn’t always good for dust and people with allergies. We use this weight as anything thicker can sometimes be too bulky and too heavy.
Tried and tested on hundreds of pairs of curtains, simply, Finir have selected what we believe is the best option.
Why are the Curtains Blackout Lined?
With better technology these days, blackout linings have a much softer drape and handle than they ever used to. Using a blackout lining means you always see our fabric and trims in their true colour, whether night or day, the colour isn’t altered if say the sun shines in. This means your Finir fabric and trim always look as they should.
Premium quality, manufactured using micro-fibre yarns that create the ultimate soft handle fabric. It has a three-pass blackout coating offering complete light exclusion and extra protection from the sunlight.
Why are the Roman Blinds made using thermal blackout lining
Created by bonding our popular blackout lining (fabric face out) to a Polyester fleece – the fleece is specifically useful when a nice crisp fold is required for roman blinds. The three-pass blackout coating offers complete light exclusion and extra protection from sunlight and means you cannot see the construction of the channels of cords on the back. Thermal properties keep sound levels down and the heat in and cold out.
What are the lining compositions & Colours?
Linings
Why are the linings only ivory?
Again, we only offer one option, to keep things simple. Tried and tested, the majority of customers do not want white or creamy yellow. Instead, a nice warm white ‘ivory’ which compliments the face fabric. Finir have selected this colour as we believe it is the best.
Can I have an unlined blind?
No. Simply the blind would not look or function as it should, without lining.

Cushions FAQ’s
Why are there only three bundles?
Keeping along the Finir moto – we want to make it simple for you. Creating three bundles, Soho, Scandi or Hampton – we have done the work for you! You have different textures and styles of fabrics, all within a neutral pallet to compliment and layer up any space. The 5 chosen cushions for each, offer 3 styles, 3 fabrics with a versatility and a total of 5 cushions.
Why FIVE cushions in each bundle?
Odd numbers work best and on a sofa or bed, often 3 looks too little and 7 too many! Leaving 5 as the perfect combo.
Can I buy the cushions individually?
You can. We think the full bundle will give you the complete interior designer impact but that is not to say you can’t add more or use our cushions bought individually. The Iman cushion is particularly great as you can add the trim of your choice to compliment what you have chosen for your curtains or blinds.
How long do the cushions take to arrive?
These are bespoke made to order but do take less time than curtains and blinds. We estimate 5-10 working days from ordering. As part of an order with curtains and/or blinds, we will ask you if you would prefer your cushions sooner than your curtains and blinds. Often it may make sense to post altogether.
What is the inner made of?
All our cushions are supplied with a feather inner. If you would prefer synthetic inners, you would need to request this as soon as you place your order.
Can I return cushions?
What’s your returns policy?
Because our products are made to your specifications, we’re unable to accept returns unless something is faulty or not as ordered. Please see our Returns Policy.
Care Instructions FAQ’s
Can I wash my curtains, roman blinds or cushions?
We would not recommend washing your curtains, roman blinds or cushions.
Can I iron them?
Our Finir signature fabric is really user friendly and very rarely creases. If there are any creases presenting after being in a box from the delivery, then you can gently press these on a medium heat. We always recommend a tea towel or using a piece of fabric between the face fabric of your curtains and the iron.
We do not recommend ironing the Roman blinds because of how they are constructed. We press the blinds before we package them up, so there should be no need.
Likewise with the cushions, we would not advice ironing these.
Samples FAQ’s
Can I order fabric samples?
- Yes, for the signature fabric & trims. Seeing our signature fabric and preferred trim in your own space, in natural light, makes all the difference, when making your decision. You can request up to 4 free samples through our trims pages.
We currently do not offer samples for cushions fabrics.
