How to Hang your Curtains
Having received your new Finir curtains, take a little time to expertly hang your curtains for the best finish. Each of our heading types – Double Pleat and 80mm Wave – require different hanging preparation, and we’ve broken these down below.
All Curtains - Your Will Need
-
A secure pole or track already installed
-
Curtain Pin Hooks or Hooks, depending on your heading, supplied by Finir
-
Step Ladders
-
Time & Patience
All Curtains - To Start:
-
Make space and carefully open your curtains and lay them out in a clean, dust free area, lining facing up.
Double Pleat: How to Hang
-
Check you have the same number of curtain rings or gliders as you have pinch pleats.
-
Confirm the position of the hooks are placed. Whether a pole or a track, the curtains hang below them, not on them.
As a general rule –-
For a track the top of the hook is 0.5cm down from the top edge of the curtain.
-
For a pole the top of the hook is 1cm down from the top edge of the curtain.
-
-
To insert the pin hook into the curtain, position it slightly to one side of the pleat (A), with the hook piercing both the exterior material and inner stiffener material. The sharp end should be pushed in fully, meaning that only the hook is visible.

-
We recommend inserting three hooks, on the first three pleats to check their placement is correct. Carefully lifting the curtain and hanging it on the rings or gliders, making sure the remaining fabric is supported to avoid placing strain on the heading. (If possible, have someone assist by holding the weight of the curtain while you test the positioning.)
-
Once you are satisfied with the placement, remove the curtain and continue inserting the remaining hooks, ensuring one hook is positioned at every pleat.
-
When all hooks are in place, you can hang your curtains. Begin from the centre and work outwards. This ensures that if you find you are missing a ring or glider, it can be added easily without needing to remove the curtain.

-
When all the hooks are hung off your runners or rings, set the pleats by ‘cracking’ back the rigid structure of the curtain heading ‘the buckram’ This forms the neat stack of pleats.
You then need to ‘dress’ the curtains, using your hands to set the pleats in a back/forward motion, eventually tie the neatly stacked curtain with a ribbon of packaging plastic
80mm Wave Heading: How to Hang
Hooks:
The first detail to consider is the number of runners must match the number of hooks, please reference our hook/pocket chart in the measuring guide.
Your Curtains will come with hooks in place and a couple of spare hooks just in case 1 or 2 have fallen out in transit but should configure as; First hook First hook goes in the 4th pocket from the edge, then a hook is inserted every 8th pocket (7 empty pockets between).
For standard Wave gliders, use the top row of pockets; for roller gliders, use the bottom row.

Hanging & Dressing:
Hanging 80mm Wave curtains is simple,
-
You will always have an even number of runners and therefore an even number of hooks.
-
Starting from the leading edge runner and hook and work outwards.
-
When all the hooks are hooked into the runners, dress the curtain
-
Draw the curtain closed and “dress” the waves:
-
Pull the first fold towards the room, push the next fold back, repeat along the track so the waves alternate neatly front and back.
